Stacy: Hello and welcome. As you are listening to my voice right now, I am on vacation or as they say in Europe, holiday. And so I am taking some time away. But of course I didn’t want to leave you hanging. So what Rita, the producer and I have done is we’ve put together some of our favorites and your favorites as replays. Now, I have done over 250 episodes, so surely there are episodes of the podcast you haven’t heard. And even if you have heard it, maybe this will be exactly the refresher or reminder that you need this week. So with that, I’ll turn this over to our replay and I will be back with you after my holiday.
Stacy: Hi there, aspiring author. Today we’re going to talk about something I hear a lot. It’s one of those inner things that authors have to deal with in order to write their first drafts. And that’s the question of am I cut out to write a whole book? Hi, I’m Stacey Ennis. I am a best selling award winning author. I have directly contributed to more than 100 books throughout my 16 years in publishing, plus impacted hundreds of authors.
Stacy: And I am a book strategist and coach who guides people through the transformative journey of authorhood to write catalyst books that help them achieve their big dreams and make a true impact on the world. And of course, because of the work that I do, because every day I am working with authors, I hear this doubt creep in. Am I capable? Can I do this? And if you’re feeling that way too, just know that you’re not alone. Even some of the most confident people, the people that command the room, command the stage, they have that same doubt. It’s totally normal. And it’s something that if you’re dealing with it, don’t worry because you can overcome it. Here’s the thing that I have learned. Everybody is capable of writing a book. You are capable. Your mom is capable. The person down the street is capable.
Stacy: Writing a book is a learnable skill. So let’s say that you play a musical instrument. When you sat down to play piano, so, or guitar or whatever instrument, did you know how to play that Right away. Did you sit down like a child prodigy and play an amazing concerto? No. You had to learn. And book writing is like that as well. It is a skill that you can learn. It is something you can do. When I work with authors, I guide them on a step by step journey to learn the skill of writing a book. And the goal behind that is that these authors can then go and deploy that skill as many times as they want. I have seen authors come in who have not written since high school, maybe college. Most of their writing today involves emails. They don’t do a lot.
Stacy: They might journal. I do, of course, also have authors that come in who have been writing regularly, articles, other content. But a lot of people love writing and would love to start writing again. But this is really a new thing for them. And if that’s you on either side of those, just know you can absolutely do it. You are cut out to write a book now. There are some things that you need to know. One is that if you don’t have the skill, you need to find a way to learn it. Sitting down and just writing your book, thinking it’s just going to come, doesn’t work. You need to find a program, a course, a guide, a coach, some way to learn this skill.
Stacy: You also need to set the time aside, which means that you may have to give up some things for a short period of time to accomplish this goal. And you also need accountability, because research shows that when you have accountability on the calendar, that’s a really important piece. You are 95%. 95%, That’s huge. More likely to accomplish your goal. So the short answer is, friend, you can do it. 100%. I believe in you and I got your back. You can do this. Your feelings are normal and you can learn the skill of book writing. 100. 100, 100%. You got this. And that’s it for me today. I will see you in the next video.
