Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?

I work with thought leaders, entrepreneurs, executives, and everyday people with extraordinary stories—anyone with a big message and a desire to impact lives through a nonfiction book. If you’re ready to commit to the writing process, driven to make an impact, and want top expert guidance to do it well, we’re a perfect match.

I have a rough idea, but I’m not sure if it’s book worthy. Can you help?

Yes! Helping you shape and clarify your idea is one of my areas of expertise. In fact, many of my clients come to me with a seed of an idea, or many rough ideas, and we work together to clarify their core message, position their book for impact, and craft a clear, compelling book concept that serves as a foundation for their entire author—and impact—journey.

How many books do I need to sell to make back my investment?

Understanding the ROI of any endeavor is important, and especially so if you’re investing time, money, energy, and heart into a book. However, calculating book sales as ROI is the wrong math. The right equation is asking: What opportunities will this book bring me, and how will those make back my investment?

Book sales are not typically how authors see a many-times return on their investment; it’s through business growth, speaking engagements, corporate workshops, courses built from the book, brand deals, personal growth, and more. In fact, one of my clients made back his entire book investment in one keynote!

Do I need to be a good writer to work with you?

Absolutely not. But you do need to be committed and open to the process. I’ll train you to improve your writing as we go. Whether you’re an experienced communicator or haven’t written more than an email lately, I’ll meet you where you are.

What’s the difference between a book coach and an editor?

As a former book editor, I love this question. Editing happens after the first draft of the book is written. Coaching supports you from the very beginning—helping you clarify your idea, position your book for impact, create a structure, stay accountable, and develop your writing as you go. It’s a blend of mentorship, guidance, and skill development.

How long does book coaching take?

My core coaching program typically spans six months, which includes planning, writing, and finishing a solid first draft. Some clients finish faster, and others extend for more support during publishing and marketing—but six months is a solid window to build momentum and get it done.

What’s included in the coaching program?

The program includes live coaching sessions, private or in a group cohort; detailed feedback on your work; access to a full curriculum; guided planning tools; and ongoing support between sessions. It’s designed to move you from idea to finished draft and beyond with clarity and confidence.

Will you edit my book?

Not exactly. Since I spent the first seven-plus years of my career as an editor, I will always wear my editorial hat while coaching my clients. I’ll give in-depth feedback on your writing throughout the process, with a focus on forward-moving feedback—that part is important, because ultimately you need to get the draft done to accomplish all your other goals. Once your draft is complete, I’ll guide you through what comes next—including connecting you with publishers or professional editors when you’re ready for the next phase.

Can you help me publish?

While I don’t publish books myself, I’ll help you weigh the pros and cons of the publishing pathways, build a plan aligned with your goals, and connect you with trusted publishing professionals to bring your book to life. Coaching clients can engage me for ongoing mentorship to serve as their direct advisor throughout the publishing journey.

How much time will I need to commit each week?

My core coaching program typically spans six months, which includes planning, writing, and finishing a solid first draft. Some clients finish faster, and others extend for more support during publishing and marketing—but six months is a solid window to build momentum and get it done.

What does book coaching cost?

Private coaching starts at $3,995 per month for the six-month program. Group coaching is $1,750 per month. Coaching with me is a premium investment designed for people serious about getting their book done. We also have an author community at a lower investment point if you’re looking for a more accessible option.

What if I fall behind?

Life happens—and that’s okay. The coaching program is designed to be flexible. If you hit a rough patch, we’ll adjust the plan and help you get back on track. I’m here to support you every step of the way.

What if I get started and decide the book isn’t right for me?

If you have this mindset going in, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Speaking bluntly (but lovingly): If you’re not ready, I’m not the coach for you. It’s totally normal to feel nervous, or even scared, but I encourage you to lean fully into this journey with the courage and confidence in your ability to succeed. You might consider purchasing my self-study course as a way to ease into the journey and see if it’s something you’d like to step fully into.

What is the difference between ghostwriting and cowriting?

Book cowriting starts at $90,000. Book ghostwriting starts at $160,000. Thought leadership strategy and content (annual retainer) starts at $30,000 annually.

How long do ghostwriting and cowriting take?

From start to first draft, the ghostwriting process generally takes nine to twelve months, and you’ll want to factor another nine months in for publishing. Cowriting generally takes six to nine months.

How does the ghostwriting interview process work?

The initial stages of ghostwriting generally happen over Zoom as we clarify the book idea, position the book, and create the initial outline. From here, interviews take place either in person (preferable) or over Zoom—these are full-day interviews over four to five days. Additional interviews take place during the writing process as needed.

What sets you apart from other book coaches?

I have a unique approach to book positioning and outlining. And I also see the author journey as just as important as the end result of a published book.

A lot of coaches focus from the outside in—what’s happening in the market, and how your book can stand out. I take an inside-out approach that focuses first on exploring and clarifying your vision and the book that is already within you, and then validating that idea through research. This results in a book that not only stands out in a crowded marketplace but also becomes a business, brand, or impact sustainability tool that is shelf stable and positioned to help you achieve your wildest dreams.

I also bring deep care to every author I have the honor of guiding. I see your success as my success. I celebrate you and love seeing you accomplish your dreams!
